How to play

1. Select a clue or white square, then type letters or use the on-screen keyboard. Crossing words share their letters; black squares stay empty.
2. Select the active square again, use the direction control, or press Space to switch Across and Down. Arrow keys move between squares; Backspace erases and moves backward within the word.
3. Tab advances through clues and leaves the grid after the last clue. Shift+Tab goes backward; Escape leaves the grid for its action controls.
4. Undo edit or Ctrl/Cmd+Z reverses a local edit; Clear word erases the selected entry, including its crossing letters. Submit the grid for verification, then edit and submit again until every white square is correct.
5. A fully correct submitted grid completes the puzzle. Unsubmitted letters are a browser draft when storage is available; submitting saves the submitted grid.

Head-to-head rules

Complete every white cell correctly before your opponent. Both players get the same puzzle and start together, with 3 minutes to finish. Completion time decides the match; fewer moves or a higher solo score do not beat an earlier correct finish. Finishes within 0.1 seconds draw. If neither player finishes before time runs out, the match is a draw.

Your moves and answers stay private. Leaving through the game controls forfeits the match; closing the page does not pause its clock.

Real-player matches update this game's own Elo rating. Daily and practice results keep their separate progress and never change Elo.

Submitting your grid

Select Submit grid to save and verify the whole grid. A correct complete grid finishes the race. Ranked play does not mark incorrect cells or show a partial correctness score; in daily and practice, Check grid can mark incorrect filled cells.
